Drive icons

When I copy files from a nested folder on a crowded disk to a usb key, I must select the files and then scroll down to display the usb drive which is always at the end of the left panel.

I would appreciate having drive icons (not a pop-up) on the toolbar, in a fixed position in my work space, ready to be opened or to accept dragged files.

The Catalog is a good place for such icons.

Not really, since the catalog is not dynamic: if I insert a usb device, the letter is assigned as needed, but in the catalog I must define all the possible disks beforehand, and if there is no device attached then it simply sits there for nothing.

While the catalog is a place to store things, it takes a lot of screen space. while icons on the toolbar Are much more economical. This is also true for executables (like a text editor).

This would be one better than Win Explorer, and as useful as PowerDesk used to be (the power of habit!).

And so how is that different from toolbar? When I insert my USB devices (flash drives or external HD, etc), they always use the same drive letter as they did before so the list of possible drive letters is quite limited. Now my list of drive letters is a bit longer than normal because my external HD's are partitioned so I go up to "I", but all my flash drives take the same "G".

I don't know about you, but I don't have enough toolbar room to have even one drive icon there, so having multiple ones seems a waste...and thus my confusion.

I think the Catalog is more economical with space than the toolbar: You could have a category "Drives" which you only expand when you need it...

I guess what the OP means is a dynamic group of buttons - one for each drive, which automatically adds/removes a button for removable drives (USB sticks) plugged in/out.

I can imagine this "iconbar" might be useful for some.

aLso, an icon could maybe be accessed faster than a collapsed Catalog entry. I find catalog entries take lots of space. just add very few and the catalog has to be scrolled (just concerning fast access times).
Also, you can't click on category itself to get where u want, you first have to expand (or have many space needed for all expanded)..
My catalog has very few entries and it always is to tedious to access content there.

anyhow, that's just my opinion. I guess i also have not optimized this.

I agree some might find it useful, especially since some other programs have similar feature which users are used to.
But anyway, i thought CTB (Custom Toolbar Buttons) was coming soon where you can add what you like.
However, as of now the easiest way i found is to set menu "Go> Drives" to a shortcut (F10 in my case) and if i need to go to drive E:\, all i do is F10 followed by e. Its so damn easy and I love it.

There's the MyComputer button and the Drives button already, which pop up sort of a "drive icons bar"...

After using the catalog for some time, I would appreciate having the catalog entries as icons on the toolbar.

The reason is that having the catalog entries just below the folders tree is not very comforting: a slip of a finger while dragging a bunch of files over the tree on the way to the catalog can result in the files ending up in an unexpected folder on the tree. Dragging them up to the toolbar is much safer.

A second toolbar could be used if there isn't enough space on the current one.

Oh, I should have made it clear in my previous post. CTB (Customized toolbar buttons) is planned for future. See some discussion here:

And if you are unsure about the Drag & drop thing then you can disable it:

Tools> Config>General and uncheck "Disallow dragging from tree and list"

It's too bad that one can't D&D to the "Favorites" via menubar, as that could be an interim solution...that would avoid the tree and allow drives to be added as "Favorite Folders".
