"My Computer" on Drives Menu.
"My Computer" on Drives Menu.
Could we get an item for "My Computer" on the Drives toolbar icon menu?
I know it's not a drive, but as it is the parent of the drives and it's included in the breadcrumb I think it would still be appropriate.

Other idea: the "drives" toolbar button will goto mycomputer on left-click and pop the drives menu on right click!?TheQwerty wrote:Could we get an item for "My Computer" on the Drives toolbar icon menu?

Re: "My Computer" on Drives Menu.
From the touchpad view, I'd make it the reverse! Have "my Computer" available via right-click as I can use/access the drives currently via a tap on pad, and not want to have to use right-click'r to get to the normal icon function!admin wrote:Other idea: the "drives" toolbar button will goto mycomputer on left-click and pop the drives menu on right click!?
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

So then why'd you not have presented it that way originally?admin wrote:Somehow I expected this post...

To be perfectly honest, I think I'd prefer just leaving it as is, but adding My Computer to the menu.
If not that then Left Click -> My Computer; Right Click -> Menu, would be the most standard and least confusing (in the future) way.
Which is more important here having a consistent (within XY and the system) interface or keeping previous behavior?

I agree with j_c. For me it would be really confusing if I left-click on a button called "Drives" and instead of opening a list of all my drives it would get me to "My Computer". Maybe it would be more consistent to have a new button called "Special System Folders" and right-clicking it would go to "My Computer".

I'll do something very similar.bergfex wrote:I agree with j_c. Maybe I do a complete Yes -- still researching the most elegant way...TheQwerty wrote:So is that a complete No to my original wish and thus makes it if I want to go to My Computer from the toolbar I'll need to add a whole new button?

This would be fine with me if "My Computer" were the first on list...ok, so it's not a true drive, but it's better than adding yet another button to toolbar.TheQwerty wrote:To be perfectly honest, I think I'd prefer just leaving it as is, but adding My Computer to the menu.
As stated previously, I'd NOT be happy with this as it then removes my ability to access the actual 'Drives' via touchpad only...and that is what this Drives icon is intended for, right?TheQwerty wrote:If not that then Left Click -> My Computer; Right Click -> Menu, would be the most standard and least confusing (in the future) way.

Well no. I'm pretty sure it's for accessing Drives via any pointer device, not just touchpads.j_c_hallgren wrote:As stated previously, I'd NOT be happy with this as it then removes my ability to access the actual 'Drives' via touchpad only...and that is what this Drives icon is intended for, right?TheQwerty wrote:If not that then Left Click -> My Computer; Right Click -> Menu, would be the most standard and least confusing (in the future) way.
Seriously however, that's my point.
It's a matter of a standardized UI. There is no instance where Left Click -> Menu, Right Click -> Action, is expected, within XY or Windows.
So the touchpad sensitive fix, is the least expected outcome for a user. I see no reason the button needs a default action, hence my original suggestion, but if Don insists that it have one, then I think the only logical method is Left Click -> Action, Right Click -> Menu.
IMO one thing for certain is that left-click on Drives has to pop-up a menu, because that's the whole point of that feature : pop-up a list of drives to go to.
What could be done instead is a new button (to replace the current one?) called My Computer that would basically have the Drives menu as ctxt-menu, but I'm not sure that'd be such a good idea.
(BTW I know it's not the same but you can use Catalog or Favorites to go to MC. Catalog is a different thing but one click, Favorites makes it a 2-click but I find it very good myself. I just wish the label/caption feature had been added to Favorites...

But the big difference between a touchpad and a pointer device, like a mouse, is that on a mouse, any click is just as easy as any other, whereas on a pad, the only click that is easy is left-click, so when an function requires anything other than left, it means a pad user has to do much more finger/hand actions to accomplish it...TheQwerty wrote:Well no. I disagree, obviously, in that a touchpad sensitive fix is simply making the most commonly used options done via left and those other less frequent options via right, so a mouse user would also benefit as most people get used to doing many more left clicks than right ones and thus it's just a tiny bit more efficient.TheQwerty wrote:So the touchpad sensitive fix, is the least expected outcome for a user. I see it somehat like the Hotlist button, in that left-click gives the most common list of choices, but right-click gives other choices.
