I have been a longtime user of Powerdesk.. It seems fairly obscure and outdated now. My cell phone, the Samsung Sync, doesn't show up in it so I cannot manage the music and other items that I might transfer to and fro.
I found DOpus, which I agree is a really marvelous app. But for my purposes, its overkill. It's a bit cumbersome .. the memory usage is high, the learning curve is steep, and it's too friggin expensive. It's not for me. Ultra Explorer looked great at first, but it's very buggy and some aspects of it are not well implemented. I don't keep anything on my box unless it is rock steady and stable.
So, I found XYPlorer.. Wow! The implementation of the tabs, the lightness. Many features I found to my liking. It's very quick. I'm thinking.. "I finally found the right one to manage my large picture and music collection. I have to register this fine application." But before I did that. I plugged in my cell phone. Nothing, no recognition. Now, keep in mind, almost everything else I downloaded, A43 and other freeware, sees my cell phone and its memory card except for XYPlorer and PowerDesk - the app I've decided is obscure. The XP system recognizes it with it's action box. Winamp, and many other applications on my box see it also. I've tried different settings on XYPlorer, thinking there was something I could tweak, but no luck. On the other hand, XYPlorer does handle my Cowan D2 and it's card without problem and that is the device which I use most for music and video.
Despite the fact my D2 is recognized and that many on this board are able to see and manage their USB devices, I can only conclude that for my purposes, this USB problem of mine with the Samsung Sync is a limitation of the XYplorer application. Too many other applications handle it fine. Perhaps something specific to the Samsung driver. That limitation is discouraging insofar as me becoming a registered user. I don't want to go back and forth to WE or other file managers to handle my collections. I would rather pay for one and have it work. Further, most of those who will find a problem like this will just dump it and move on to the next choice, but this app is so good, I thought I would offer my thoughts, knowing that I do not represent all, but I might represent many.
Anybody know something that might get XYplorer to recognize my Samsung A707 device?
And columns, hmmm.. there are no choices there for those of us who want to manage our collections, just the standards, name, ext, modify date, etc.. that every file manager has had since 1995. I can live with that, but in this current age with these electronic devices really becoming a part of every household, and the need to manage and sort with the metadata present on the devices, it's certainly a drawback. As my young one would say, XYPlorer is "old school". I'd have to agree insofar as the column choices are concerned.
Thanks for listening.. Any advice to get my device recognized will be appreciated.

Hi!
Conc. new school columns -- is on my list. Technically no problem. The disadvantage is: You like XY's lightness. This will go away with full new school column support... takes lots of memory...
Can you turn it into (map it onto) a drive?Cadillakin wrote:Anybody know something that might get XYplorer to recognize my Samsung A707 device?

I assume not, as disk management cannot see the device.admin wrote:Can you turn it into (map it onto) a drive?
Yeah, well, that's a fact of life when you are trying to manage/read thousands of files and hundreds of subfolders. Isn't it? I assume that the columns and speed effects will be specific to the folder.. By the way, can the metadata displayed in the columns be cached and re-read, as needed?Conc. new school columns -- is on my list. Technically no problem. The disadvantage is: You like XY's lightness. Maybe I have a comparable problem?
I have a GPS device, when I connect it via USB a program named Active Sync starts. After this I can see it in WinExplorer, as "Mobiles Gerät" in "Arbeitsplatz". It's not shown in XY.
This is a pitty, as I have some extension for this device, for which I often have to copy files (especially pathes or maps) between PC and device, and have to use WE...

Caching would be possible. It's on my list anyway for search results...Cadillakin wrote:By the way, can the metadata displayed in the columns be cached and re-read, as needed?
