[GRANTED] Quick Select from Address Bar

Post by TheQwerty »

We have a nice way to quickly select a file when browsing into a location (<xypath>\XYplorer.chm), but it's limited to a single item and only a file at that. Further, once at a location the only easy way to select multiple files from the address bar is to run a Sel, SelectItems, or SelFilter SC or use those in an alias.

That we can search, highlight, focus, and filter items from the address bar with ease but selecting them takes a bit more work makes me sad.

It is time to introduce a new symbol to improve this and since this is similar I'm thinking Spot and Jump should become SJ and Select. ;)

I propose >>> as the symbol for a quick select - unfortunately I'm late to the party so it's not ideal.*
This should operate exactly like spot except it also selects all matching items.

In addition:
A new command Select Spotted Items would be appreciated.
It should also be possible to browse and select.

* Ideally it would either be:
>Spot; >>Jump; >>>Select
or
>Select; >>Jump; >>>Spot

These orders seem more intuitive than: >Jump; >>Spot; >>>Select
But I don't want to go down the path of breaking backwards compatibility. :?

I work like this since 2012 using a scripted solution, for those interested.
(I think I published on forums but can't remember any clue leading to to it)

To be honest the real purpose of this wish is in the last point.
It should also work as a browse and select.

That way you can enter something like: C:\folder>>>*.tmp
Which will go to C:\folder and select items matching *.tmp.

This enables the user to very quickly perform tasks without leaving the address bar.

+2!

BTW, I'm not going to make a new topic for a spot (+TAF) wish: show total number of matching items in the statusbar.
