How to change mouse button function for fullscreen preview?

Post by ghost zero »

How can we change mouse button function for when inside fullscreen preview? I want to hold left click to drag the image, and right click to show menu.

NOTE: I don't know when this changed, but the current scheme is really awful and unintuitive. I much prefer navigating images by scrolling mouse wheel than to click on left/right sides of screen to do that.

Do you have either of the Mouse Down Blow Up options enabled within the preview?

You can toggle them by pressing 'm' or 'shift+m' while the preview is active or via the Advanced Options... menu (right-click > Advanced Options... or just ctrl+right-click to get there directly) and select Mouse Down Blow Up or Mouse Down Blow Up: Shrink to Fit.

There were a number of changes at the end of summer, but I'm not sure what behavior you're actually after:

Code: Select all

v15.70.0109 - 2015-09-08 20:32
! Floating Preview: Navigate by mouse-click also happened when the click
just activated the preview window. No more.
v15.70.0102 - 2015-09-04 16:59
+ Floating Preview: Now, if MDBU is off (toggle it by "M" when in FP), you
can navigate by left mouse click on the image itself:
      - Click on left half of the preview: Go Back.
      - Click on right half of the preview: Go Forward.
You still can pan a partially shown image by mouse holding down right
      mouse button.
The hand cursor has been removed completely.
    * Floating Preview: Panning by keys (Shift+Arrow) got faster: 96 screen
pixels per key press (was 32 before).
v15.60.0012 - 2015-08-28 19:13
    * Floating Preview: Now the arrow keys navigate to the next (Right, Down) or
the previous (Left, Up) image. Always, also in zoomed view. Before, those
keys would have panned the image in partial view.
Now, to pan a partially shown image by keyboard hold SHIFT while using the
      arrow keys.
v15.50.0108 - 2015-08-07 21:06
+ Floating Preview: Now you can navigate by left mouse click.
      - Click on left half of status bar or of anywhere off preview: Go Back.
      - Click on right half of status bar or of anywhere off preview: Go Forward.

that is the change that is causing this. that new control scheme is awful and unintuitive. please give us an option to change it back!

note: i have the MDBU settings you're referring to set to off, but toggling them doesn't fix the problem.

the following would be the most natural control scheme for image viewing [and is how i had it set before]...

- middle click on an image to toggle "full screen preview"
- navigate prev/next image by mouse wheel scrolling
- hold left click to pan large images
- right click for menu

...the bolded ones are not working anymore. please change it back or give us an option!

note: that control scheme is also what xnview uses, and is perfect.

Option to set "hold left click" to drag/pan oversized images

Post by ghost zero »

For image viewing, please add option to set "hold left click" to drag/pan oversized images. Also, add option to set "right click" on image to show context menu.

I personally agree that this was a mistake:

Code: Select all

v15.70.0102 - 2015-09-04 16:59
+ Floating Preview: Now, if MDBU is off (toggle it by "M" when in FP), you
can navigate by left mouse click on the image itself:
      - Click on left half of the preview: Go Back.
      - Click on right half of the preview: Go Forward.
I'm ready to go back to how it was before that change.

Other opinions?

i don't know, view by clicking is quite nifty. maybe change the zone of click? like some ~100 pixels from sides to go responsive way.

the wheel is all you need for back/forward image navigation, and it's faster. the new clicking method is totally stupid and gets in the way of intuitive dragging.

I'll make it optional.

thanks, but when upgrading XY, can you also make sure it's reverted back by default?

because the click to pan is a lot more sensible than the click to navigate. users will appreciate it more.

It's the factory default. But I won't change it for upgraders. They are used to it. :)

despite turning off "Navigate by Click", the right click drag function still remains--please turn that off. as it is, it also currently interferes with normal right click for menu.

NOTE: in fact, that right click drag function scheme feels so clunky, i wouldn't mind you get rid of it completely.

:?

I use that function all the time, it works well, does not interfer, and is not clunky.
