Folder Created date gets reset to current time on file copy

Post by dewcansam »

I was noticing that when I copy or move a file into a folder on the NAS via the home network that the created date was getting reset to the current date and time. Which it should NOT do. This was also resetting the modified date to current. But, I kinda understand that. I tried this on a number of versions including v.9.20, v.10.90, v.11.80 & v.12.70. All with the same results. Tried moving a file into the folder using Windows Explorer and it worked like expected NOT touching the timestamps of the folder (created and modified).

Notice: I am only copying a file into the folder, and not touching the folder directly.
Notice: I have "custom copy" with the "Preserve all item dates" turned on. However, I could replicate these results with it turned off

Using XYplorer v.12.70 on Windows 7 with network on Lenovo 70A69001NA and Ubuntu 12 Samba

p.s. I was also noticing that it was happening on the local file system as well. For a while, that is, until I turned off "custom copy". Then it went back to normal. And, I was NOT able to reproduce the issue. So I can't say if I was seeing things or not. :?

Searching Forums reveals nothing.
Any comments appreciated.

How can you avoid confusion when a dates have at least six different interpretations around the world?
A notation like 01/02/03 could mean 1 Feb 2003 or 2 Jan 2003 or 2 Mar 2001.

Just moved a picture OUT of a network folder and it reset the Created and Modified dates to the current timestamp. This is not good. I turned off "custom copy" for a while and was so ticked off with the Win 7 copy dialog that I had to turn "custom copy" back on. I really need another option.

Has anybody been able to replicate this issue ?? I am wondering if that it could be something on the local pc ?? In which case I will do a clean install on this poc anyway.

I had similar issues, but I haven't seen them come back since I started using "Backup to ..." -- it avoids the "Do you want to overwrite this file" messages, and preserves the dates. (However, since you've selected "Preserve all item dates" and are still having this issue, I'm not sure if this will solve your problem -- I hope it does!)

Good luck!

Okay did some more testing and I set the date to a text file to 2007. Then opened it up in notepad added a single CRLF and then save and closed it.
And the created date timestamp got reset to today's date !! wtf

Did a second test. Reset the date back to 2007. Closed out XY. Opened it up via explorer in notepad. Added a single CRLF and then saved and closed it.
AGAIN the created date timestamp got reset to today's date !!

So, I am officially pulling this off the XY bug list. Because the fault lies elsewhere. Not sure where though. As I have never seen this issue before, I have no-where to begin to look.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
