= NEW OFFICIAL RELEASE. Main changes since last release:
+++ Dual Pane. Look at the contents of two folders side by side. Both
panes are multi-tabbed and can be arranged vertically or
      horizontally.
+++ Overlong filenames supported. All fundamental file operations now
work with extremely long filenames (longer than 260 characters).

Download the latest XYplorer BETA version (v8.00.0001, 18-jun-2009).
Choose one: (1) Install Package, (2) No-Install Package (each about 1.5 MB).

Code: Select all

v8.00.0001 - 2009-06-18 14:30
+++ The Shell provides a way to obtain preview images (aka thumbnails)
for any file which has a Shell extension that supports this:
typically images, videos, web and Office documents, and folders.
Windows Explorer's thumbnails are created using this way.
Now XYplorer learned to do it, too, which means you will get
thumbnails and a preview (Info Panel) for PDF, HTML, various
Office and video formats, and, of course, all sorts of image
formats (many of which are already done by XY's internal
      thumbnails/preview, of course).

      Notes
      - The Shell's thumbnail extraction from PDF, HTML, Office, and
videos is usually quite slow since a LOT of work is being done
here. Tip: Caching the thumbs is a good idea...
      - The Shell can even extract thumbnails from online content in URL
and MHT files. However this is (or can be) so slow that I hard-
coded it away for the time being.
      - Because of the slowness the whole new thing is optional. See
next paragraphs for how to turn it on.
      - Before you ask: I will later probably adopt the Explorer way of
processing thumbnails only on demand (when they are shown in the
        list).
+ Configuration | Thumbnails: Added option "Create shell supported
thumbnails as well (quite slow)" (see above).
+ Configuration | Previewed Formats: Added option "Automatically
show non-previewed file types using the shell" (see above).
For example, if you want to use the Shell preview for PDFs instead
      of Internet Explorer/ActiveX:
      (1) Uncheck *.pdf in the "Web & Office" list in Previewed Formats.
      (2) Check "Automatically show non-previewed file types using the
          shell".
+ Toolbar: Added context menus to "Favorite Folders" and "Favorite
      Files" buttons.
+ Menu View | Tree Style: Added new style setting "Apply
Highlighting". Turn it ON to apply Highlights and Box Colors. The
      factory default is ON.
I added this option because I sometimes don't want to see all
those colors (but keep the definitions).
    * Menu View | Refresh Tree: Now, when in Mini Tree mode, Refresh
Tree (F4) will not show all existing childs of the expanded
branches anymore. Instead, it will just take care that all
available drives are shown and it removes all non-existing childs.
! Tree: Alt+Click would keep the clicked node as selection although
it refers to the inactive pane. Stupid bug. Fixed.
! SC continue: Would raise error when used outside of any loop.
      Fixed.

Re: Here's the new BETA

Download the latest XYplorer BETA version (v8.00.0002, 20-jun-2009).
Choose one: (1) Install Package, (2) No-Install Package (each about 1.5 MB).

Code: Select all

v8.00.0002 - 2009-06-20 14:25
*** Thumbnails: Completely rewrote thumbnails handling. No more
"creating thumb..." in the statusbar, no more waiting for it to
finish. Now thumbnails are created on the fly in the moment they
are to be shown. This means, with thumbnails caching off, much
faster opening of folders with many images (and other thumbable
items). Of course, with thumbnails caching on, everything has
always been very fast and now it's even a bit faster.
There's a price to this (only with thumbnails caching off):
Scrolling thru long lists of thumbable items will be somewhat
unsmooth because of the thumbnail creation.
    * Thumbnails: Now the disk cache fully supports Unicode. Before,
thumbnails of files with Unicode names or within Unicode paths were
not cached correctly to disk and had to be created afresh on each
      show.
+ Overlong filenames: Now you can browse and search folders with
      overlong names.
+ Overlong filenames: Now you can drag'n'drop overlong files, and
cut/copy/paste them via clipboard. Note that currently the
move/copy/delete support for overlong filenames is limited to
      operations on single items.
+ Overlong filenames: Now you can create new folders within folders
      with overlong names.
    * Since v4.50.0015 (2006-02-26 12:40) only up to 256 individual
selections were retained between tab switches. This limit is
now lifted: any number of individual selections are retained.
! Scripting: A stepped script would raise an error and terminate
when you unset the only used variable. Fixed.
! Scripting: Initial empty lines in a HereDoc block did not survive.
      Fixed.

Re: Here's the new BETA

Download the latest XYplorer BETA version (v8.00.0003, 22-jun-2009).
Choose one: (1) Install Package, (2) No-Install Package (each about 1.5 MB).

Code: Select all

v8.00.0003 - 2009-06-22 15:42
+++ Jump To Item: Type ">" plus the beginning of an item into the
Address Bar and press Enter, and the focus will jump to it in the
List. It's like Type-Ahead Find but done through the Address Bar
or whatever location port (Catalog, Favorites, Go To, Scripts,
      etc.).
      For example:
        >xy = jump to the next item (from current position in list!)
                beginning with "xy"
Note that, just like Type-ahead find, Jump To Item will use the
sorted column (if it is Name, Ext, Type, or Path), when "Type-
ahead find uses sorted column" in Configuration | General is
      checked.
    * Spot: The Jump To Item syntax (see above) was previously used for
the "Spot" functionality. The latter is still available but the
syntax has been slightly changed: Jump To Item will only happen
when the pattern contains no "|", which separates multiple strings
in a Spot pattern. So to trigger the Spot functionality *with a
single string* you have to simply append an "|" to the string.
      Examples:
        >xy = jump to the next "xy" item
        >xy| = highlight all "xy" sequences in the list
        >xy|ab = highlight all "xy" and "ab" sequences in the list
+ Full Screen Preview: Now it works for PDFs, DOCs, and some video
formats (MPG, AVI, WMV), using the Shell-made preview images.
Note that the shown size is not the "original size" but usually
smaller. This is because the shell image extraction seems to have
an upper size limit beyond which it simply fails to work (at least
      under XP).
Tip: If you rather want to see the raw bytes use Ctrl+Shift+Q
      (Quick File View).
+ Overlong filenames: Now calculating folder size works for folders
      with overlong filenames.
+ Overlong filenames: Now autp-refresh works for folders with
      overlong filenames.
    * Menu View | Caches | Refresh Thumbs Cache: This command is now
always enabled (in thumbnails views) to allow refreshing the
thumbnails currently cached in memory. Before, it was only enabled
when disk caching thumbnails was enabled.
    * Configuration | Thumbnails: Now, when you toggle "Cache
thumbnails [to disk]" the list is not reloaded anymore. It's
simply not necessary. All thumbnails currently in memory are kept
alive and the visible part of the list will not change.
To refresh the visible thumbnails (and the disk cache if disk
caching is on) select menu View | Caches | Refresh Thumbs Cache.
    * Menu View | Caches: Renamed menu items
        Refresh Th&umbs Cache -> Refresh &Thumbnails
Refresh &List Icons Cache -> Refresh &List Icons
Refresh &Catalog Icons Cache -> Refresh &Catalog Icons
        Refresh &Environment Cache -> Refresh &Environment Variables
    * Configuration | Thumbnails: Renamed
&Cache thumbnails in this folder -> &Cache thumbnails on disk
    * Menu View | Caches | Refresh Thumbnails: Now it's done much
smarter, without rebrowsing the folder, and keeping scroll position
      and selections.
+ List: Type-Ahead Find (aka Find-As-You-Type) now delays the actual
find while the list is still loading, and jumps to the matching item
once the load is complete. This means you can happily type in your
pattern while the desired item is not yet contained in the list and
it still will be found. Of course, you'll notice any difference to
before only in extremely huge lists.
+ Toolbar buttons "Views", "Toggle Details/List View", "Toggle
Details/Thumbnails #1 View" | Context Menu: Added two useful items:
      - Cache Thumbnails on Disk: Identical to the option in
Configuration | Thumbnails. As a toggle (checkmarked) it quickly
shows you whether disk caching is on or off.
      - Refresh Thumbnails: Identical to Menu View | Caches | Refresh
        Thumbnails.
% Thumbnails: Smoother scrolling for non-cached lists.
! Thumbnails: Disk cache was not written when thumbnails view
      (Thumbnails #1, #2, #3) was switched. Fixed.
! Dual Pane: Toolbar button "Folder View Settings" was not correctly
      updated on pane switch. Fixed.
! History: The wrong tab was selected after opening a new tab and
closing it again and with "Cycle tabs in recently used order"
      enabled. Fixed.
! History: With "History per tab" enabled, on tab change the new
location was added to the history, which should not happen, of
      course. Fixed.
! History: After removing a tab, its history remained in memory. Not
necessarily a bug, and could be even useful, but it was confusing
      users so I removed it.
! Mini Tree: There was too much refreshing going on in various
situations making the Mini Tree larger than expected. Fixed.

! Closing a tab could crash v8.00.0003. Fixed.
    * Spot: Now it has its own icon (a yellow marker). Credits go to
http://led24.de/iconset/ for providing this nice free icon!!
Jump To Item now uses the previous Spot icon.

Code: Select all

v8.00.0005 - 2009-06-23 13:18
+ Spot: Now, when you repeat the previous pattern the spot is turned
off again. So it's a neat and cozy toggle now.
! General display issues with font Trebuchet MS and probably other
      similar fonts. Very strange. Fixed.
! Window Title Bar: [WOW64] was not updated correctly since
      v7.90.0406. Fixed.
! Statusbar and Info Panel could get incorrectly updated to the
inactive pane's focused file on an auto-refresh event. Fixed.
! Menu Tools | Control Panel...: Showed a double Control Panel on
      x64. Fixed.
! Tip of the Day: Fixed some typos.

Download the latest XYplorer BETA version (v8.00.0006, 24-jun-2009).
Choose one: (1) Install Package, (2) No-Install Package (each about 1.5 MB).

Code: Select all

v8.00.0006 - 2009-06-24 10:40
+ SC Report(): Added a couple of special fields that will retrieve
meta properties from all file types that support this:
        - {DocTitle}
        - {DocSubject}
        - {DocAuthor}
        - {DocCategory}
        - {DocComments}
      Example:
        ::echo report("{Fullname}: Title={DocTitle}, _
            Subject={DocSubject}, written by {DocAuthor}<crlf>", 1);
+ Font Preview: Now, when you right-click an item on the info frame
you get a mini context menu "Copy Item to Clipboard".
    * Font Preview: Now, when you de/activate a font by clicking its
name on the info frame you get a feedback on the statusbar.
! Menu Tools | Control Panel...: Showed a double Control Panel on
      x64. Fixed, part 2.
! List would lose focus after right-mouse MDBU on thumbnail. Fixed.
! A little history glitch could lead to consecutive duplicates.
      Fixed.
! SC tag: did not update the list correctly when itemlist was passed.

Download the latest XYplorer BETA version (v8.00.0007, 24-jun-2009).
Choose one: (1) Install Package, (2) No-Install Package (each about 1.5 MB).

Code: Select all

v8.00.0007 - 2009-06-24 22:54
+ Jump To Item: Now wildcard patterns are supported.
      For example:
        >*op* will jump to the next List item containing "op" anywhere
in the name (resp. in the sorted column).
        >???? will jump to the next List item that's 4 chars long.
        >*##* will jump to the next List item with at least 2
                consecutive numbers in the name.
If no wildcards are contained matching will be from the beginning
of the item, i.e. as if the pattern was "pattern*".
    * Now when you inline-rename a folder in the List, all Favorites,
Tabs (both panes), and Tags/Comments, pointing to that folder are
      auto-adjusted to the new name.
! In a certain constellation a crash on pane switch could happen.
      Fixed.
! SC new: List would not update when "name" argument did not have
      the correct capitalization. Fixed.
! Tree, List: Inline rename visual glitch. Fixed.

Download the latest XYplorer BETA version (v8.00.0008, 25-jun-2009).
Choose one: (1) Install Package, (2) No-Install Package (each about 1.5 MB).

Code: Select all

v8.00.0008 - 2009-06-25 11:50
    * Configuration | Thumbnails: Renamed
      - S&uper-fast thumbnail creation (at slightly lesser quality)
        -> S&uper-fast thumbnails
      - Create &shell supported thumbnails as well
-> Show thumbnails for &non-picture files
    * Menu Go | History...: This and similar List-dialogs now got a
little "Tips..." button which replaces the tooltip which was just
      hanging around stupidly.
    * Going back and forward in history now will skip non-existing or
      non-available paths.
! Fixed a refresh issue in Tree after deleting a folder.
! A locked Tree was completely reset and jumped to MyComputer under
      certain conditions. Fixed.
    - Removed the following feature from v5.00.0067 (2006-07-27 13:00).
It's counter-intuitive and has been kind of obsolete anyway since we
      have Default Tabs:
Tabs: added another anti-tab-proliferation (aka tab gun)
measurement. If the current tab is locked and no other tab with
exactly the targeted destination location exists, now XY looks
for a home zoned tab where this destination would fit. Only if
this ain't found either, a new tab is auto-opened. Looking for
tabs is always left to right.

Download the latest XYplorer BETA version (v8.00.0009, 25-jun-2009).
Choose one: (1) Install Package, (2) No-Install Package (each about 1.5 MB).

Code: Select all

v8.00.0009 - 2009-06-25 23:10
+ Thumbnails and Preview (Shell-made): Now also the following file
types are supported: MHT, URL, NWS, EML, MSG.
+ The Full Screen Preview (F11) now works for HTML, MHT, URL, NWS,
EML, and MSG files in perfect original size quality. Even more
file types might work depending on your system.
+ Tweak to exclude certain file types (identified by extension) from
      the shell-made preview and thumbnails.
This would exclude MHT and URL files:
        [Settings]
        NoPrevShell=.mht.url.
    * Info Panel: Now the max size of the IP is calculated more smartly
and takes into account whether it's DP or SP mode, horizontal or
vertical DP, and how the top bars are layouted. IOW, there's a
good change that your IP can be larger again.
% Info Panel | Preview: Now the quality of Shell-made previews is
much better, and you can zoom them by enlarging the Info Panel.
Also the Mouse Down Blow Up is much larger now.
! A blocked list was not refreshed when the unavailable path got
      available again. Fixed.

    * Info Panel: Now the max size of the IP is calculated so that at
least one list row is visible, even with a horizontal scrollbar.
! Tabs: Fixed drawing glitches where X-buttons would stay visible
when they should not, and a hover-effect was not removed after
      leaving the tab.
! The history of a closed tab was removed even with "History per
tab" OFF. Fixed. If the history is global it should not change
      when a tab is removed.
